OneAmerica (OA) was established in 2001 by U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal and has since grown to become a locally and nationally recognized leader in advancing immigrant, civil, and human rights. We utilize grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and civic/electoral engagement to promote justice in three areas: immigration, education and early learning, and democracy. Our family of organizations consists of OneAmerica (501(c)3), OneAmerica Votes (501(c)4), and OneAmerica Votes Justice Fund (PAC). 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

OneAmerica is seeking a self-motivated and highly organized associate to support the Washington New Americans program (WNA), which is devoted to helping eligible legal permanent residents become U.S. citizens, voters, and active members of our community. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and passionate about the mission of the program. The position is based in our Seattle office, reports to the WNA Senior Manager, and will join a team of five program staff.

The WNA Program Associate will be responsible for our Citizenship Day preparation and execution. The ideal candidate will bring a strong anti-racist and power analysis to this work, using their skills as a confident, relational leader to build authentic relationships while managing multiple priorities with impeccable follow-through. This position is based in our Seattle, WA office.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

Event Planning and Execution (30%):

  • Coordinate behind-the-scenes logistics to ensure our statewide citizenship in-person and remote clinics run smoothly for applicants, volunteers, and staff
  • Coordinate the screening and scheduling of clients for appointments at upcoming clinics
  • Participate in immigration legal services training
  • Work with clients directly at citizenship clinics to assist them with their applications
  • Collaborate productively with partners, ally organization staff, and others, to execute collaborative clinics
  • Ensure the updates and preparation of supplies for naturalization clinics while overseeing inventories and staff assignments
  • Enter and track participant data after events into Excel and Salesforce, and proactively address errors as they come up.
  • Act as citizenship captain/project manager for citizenship events

Volunteer Management (25%):

  • Recruit volunteers for all WNA citizenship days and During citizenship events volunteers are knowledgeable, effective, and their time is meaningfully spent
  • Recruit and confirm volunteers for events, ensuring we have enough people for each role and that they receive required training
  • Create and write monthly volunteer newsletter
  • Arrange logistics of food and transportation for volunteers for in-person events
  • Manage volunteer recognition program to ensure our volunteers feel appreciated

Manage and organize a volunteer base (20%):

  • Recruit WNA volunteers to become part of OneAmerica’s power-building base
  • Complete monthly goal of 1 on 1s per month with WNA volunteers who will be proposed to join OneAmerica’s power-building campaigns, including the ambassador program and campaign action team
  • Execute WNA’s power-building strategy while building a strong organizing base of 10 volunteers as part of the overall OneAmerica’s organizing objectives

Manage WNA applicant Communication (10%):

  • Ensure people interested in applying for citizenship get accurate and prompt information
  • Return calls and texts on our statewide citizenship hotline, providing accurate citizenship information and referrals
  • Update multilingual promotional materials by established deadlines, using programs like InDesign

Follow up with Citizenship Applicants (10%):

  • Ensure people who have attended our application assistance events receive adequate support throughout the 2–8-month application process
  • Call past applicants to follow up on their naturalization applications and provide additional resources and referrals if necessary
  • Assist new citizens in registering to vote and stay involved with the WNA Ambassador program
  • Engage with participants in local advocacy campaigns that directly impact them

OneAmerica staff responsibilities (5%):

  • Attend and participate in OneAmerica power-building events
  • Additional support to benefit OneAmerica and OneAmerica Votes and the shared organizational mission

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES 

OneAmerica is seeking candidates who are passionate about our mission and are willing to step up in our organizing endeavors. While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications below, our ideal candidate would bring:  

Required: 

  • Fluency in Spanish; ability to speak fluently and have basic writing skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines
  • Ability to work successfully both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and Word
  • Deep passion for social justice and building power in immigrant communities
  • Must have access to a car and be willing to travel to accommodate community-based scheduling needs (i.e., meetings held in the evenings and on weekends at off-site locations around the state)

Preferred: 

  • Experience with immigrant communities is preferred
  • The ability to connect the “what” with the “why”: understanding that the program’s success is grounded in a solid foundation of organizational systems and impeccable follow-through
  • Willingness to take initiative and generate creative solutions to challenges

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Ability to be on a computer for majority of the day
  • Travel within the state roughly 5 times a year
  • Ability to have multiple phone calls a day 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • This is a hybrid position based out of our Seattle, WA office. In-office twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 

  • Salary is $57,000 - $63,000
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage, including vision, dental, life insurance; short- and long-term disability; up to 20 weeks of family and medical leave; and more;
  • Other benefits include cell phone and transportation stipends, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), 403(b) retirement plans and relocation packages;
  • Five weeks of PTO in years 0-3, six weeks for years 4-6, seven weeks of PTO after 7 years of service;
  • Three months paid sabbatical after every five years of service;
