Native Action Network (NAN) is a nonprofit organized to promote Native women’s full representation, participation, and leadership in local, state, tribal, and national affairs. NAN achieves this by hosting intergenerational leadership forums, youth academies, 10-month Legacy of Leadership cohorts, leadership luncheons, nonprofit capacity building workshops, as well as other community development and civic participation activities. Position Summary
The Political Navigator is responsible for managing NAN’s Advocacy Boot Camp program, Voter Engagement programs, Policy initiatives, and Advocacy Training.
In this position you will be responsible for recruiting participants for the new cohorts, developing training curriculum, drafting agendas, and confirming guest speakers. As part of the ongoing capacity building and advocacy work, Native Action Network seeks to advance Native women’s participation in all levels of government and boards to ensure we have a seat at all tables. Therefore, the Political Navigator will play a key role in supporting NAN Advocacy and Leadership alum as they do community organizing and work to achieve their advocacy and community goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop a work plan to recruit participants to the “A Seat at the Table – Advocacy Bootcamp” and the Legacy of Leadership cohort. Responsibilities will include outreach, marketing, and tracking applications.
- Coordinate sessions by developing agendas, confirming speakers, ensuring logistics are confirmed, and sending out details to cohort members, and facilitating training sessions.
- Provide regular updates during weekly meetings.
- Oversee visits to the state Legislature that includes preparation, testimonial training, and meeting with elected officials.
- Support cohort members and Sisterhood alum in achieving their leadership goals.
- Ensure cohort members and Sisterhood alum are prepared for, aware of, and can apply for Boards and Commissions openings at the Governor’s Office.
Required Qualifications
- Education – Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience – Two or more years working in the political arena; can include working on a campaign, as a staff person, in policy development, or in a state legislature.
- Job Location – Position is based in Seattle, Washington. Ability to work in an in-person office environment and travel to in-person events.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
AND
- Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s purpose, mission, vision, and values.
- Experience in working with Tribes and Urban Native communities.
- Proficient at building community and advocating for American Indians and Alaska Native communities.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $48,000-62,000, depending upon experience.
Benefits: Employer-sponsored health insurance stipend, Sick Leave, Paid Time Off (PTO), employer retirement contribution, and paid holidays.
