The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a range of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. The Executive Assistant & Board Liaison will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.

Washington Environmental Council (WEC) is a nonprofit, statewide advocacy organization. For over 50 years, WEC has brought people together to solve Washington’s most critical environmental issues. WEC builds power for the environmental movement by building partnerships, mobilizing the public, connecting voters to decision makers, and taking legal action. WEC centers and amplifies the voices of the most impacted communities to develop, advocate, and defend policies that ensure environmental justice and protection.
The shared vision of WEC/WCV is: Through collaborative, statewide efforts inequitable structures and systems have been dismantled so that everyone in Washington enjoys clean air and clean water, healthy communities, and a vibrant and equitable economy. By effectively combining the policy know-how of WEC with the political know-how of WCV, we have reshaped how environmental protection is achieved in Washington.
In 2020, WCV and WEC hired a new CEO – an indigenous woman from the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Oregon. Under her leadership, WEC and WCV have recently adopted a new strategic framework. These frameworks continue to move the organizations towards a vision of justice that centers overburdened communities in the development of statewide environmental solutions, advocacy, and movement building in the state. With one shared CEO, our organizations work in partnership as each pursues its unique mission.
Combined, we have a staff of 35 and work in a LEED-certified building in downtown Seattle with a view of Elliott Bay. Given the current pandemic we are working remotely most of the time but are currently developing a “hybrid” model that involves some time in the office and some time working from home. Our teams have access to a variety of online tools and systems that support working remotely. Our expectation is that we will eventually return to some schedule of safely working together in our downtown office.

The Executive Assistant & Board Liaison is a motivated, thoughtful and organized professional with an excellent ability to write, collaborate and communicate. Inspired by the mission of the organization and our commitment to being an anti-racist organization, the Executive Assistant & Board Liaison will provide a high level of organizational and administrative support to the CEO, Board of Directors and the Senior Management Team (SMT).
The Executive Assistant & Board Liaison is a representative of the CEO to internal and external partners – including a wide range of stakeholders, communities of color, members of the press, the Board of Directors and the SMT. This individual should have a high level of energy and ability to focus on details while prioritizing and completing tasks in a timely manner. The Executive Assistant must have the ability to be proactive and take initiative to identify problems and devise solutions, and have the flexibility to help implement those solutions with a strong sense of judgement, discretion and tact.
This role has a significant number of administrative duties making strong organizational skills and the ability to pay attention to detail critical. In every aspect of this role, the Executive Assistant demonstrates a commitment to the organization mission and core values of racial justice, community, centering and uplifting people of color and transformation.
- Provide sophisticated calendar management to CEO including managing all internal and external requests, questions and materials in and out of the Executive Office
- Act as a liaison and provide support to the Board of Directors including scheduling and handling of all logistics for general board meetings, board committees and board events
- Act as liaison for CEO to internal staff and external constituencies including scheduling all meetings, drafting communication, prioritizing and determining appropriate course of action with requests and inquiries
- Complete a broad variety of administrative tasks that facilitates the CEO’s ability to effectively lead the organization including assisting with special projects, coordinating and managing travel, developing itineraries and agendas
- Work closely with the CEO to keep them well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately
- Coordinate and attend all Senior Management Team meetings and work closely with the SMT to document meetings and follow up actions
- Provide leadership and build relationships critical to the success of the organization, manage a variety of special projects for the CEO
- Minimum 3 years of experience in administrative role reporting directly to senior management
- Demonstrated ability to approach all aspects of functional duties with an anti-racist lens
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
- High level of professionalism with attention to maintaining sensitive and confidential information
- Excellent writing, editing, grammatical, and research skills with the ability to communicate strategically and effectively
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, and external partners and the ability to navigate difficult personalities
- Proficiency in Windows (MS Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint) and SalesForce with aptitude to learn new software and systems
- Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced team environment
- Ability to work occasional weekend days and shift work hours to accommodate evening board meetings

This job requires frequent sitting. Must be able to conduct business in English, though fluency in other languages, such as Spanish, are welcomed. Compensation and Benefits
This is a full time, exempt position with a salary range of $61,000 to $70,000 depending on experience. We also offer a generous benefits package including medical and dental insurance, 401k plan and organizational match of up to 3% of your annual salary, a flexible spending account, paid vacation and sick leave, ten paid holidays per year, an unlimited ORCA transit pass, and if you work for seven consecutive years you are eligible for a two-month paid sabbatical.
