<p><strong>THE OPPORTUNITY:<br /></strong><span style="font-size: 13px;">SEIU 925 is a cutting-edge labor union representing nearly 20,000 members working in&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">education from early learning through higher education. We are seeking an experienced&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">on-line organizer and communicator with the strategic sense, campaign experience,&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">organizing mindset, and creative moxie to do things differently. We want you to build member relationships and power through&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">shrewd organizing, focusing on online participation, website, and social networking&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">strategies. Though this position is primarily about online and new media&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">communications, there will be additional responsibilities depending on current&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">campaigns and priorities. We want a person on our team who can successfully navigate&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">and integrate online and offline communications and organizing. You should be just as&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">comfortable in front of a group of members as you are behind a computer. The best fit&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">for this position will be a strong team player who can also work independently and a&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">quick learner with a can-do attitude. This person will have an eye for design, excellent&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">writing skills, and strong attention to detail.</span></p>
<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Develop online influence strategies, with a particular focus on email campaigns,&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">that grow the number of members engaged in union efforts and enhance our&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">participation in the movement for social and economic justice.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Increase the effectiveness, reach and level of member participation in online&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">engagement and social networking tools.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Use all available online, metric tools to continuously analyze, assess and develop&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">recommendations for all online, social network and new media strategies.&nbsp;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Create and edit engaging, creative, and accurate content for emails and website.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Develop online ad campaigns to support organizing and political campaign&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">activities.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Work with members to develop their stories for issue, political, and bargaining&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">campaigns and use online tools and strategies to share these stories.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Develop strategic, design and technical applications for our new media and social&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">networks, including WordPress website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Provide leadership in developing a culture of online activism among officers,&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">members and staff.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Collect and develop member stories to share in a variety of forums.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Create basic flyers as needed for actions and events.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Work with design and print vendors on member mailings and field materials.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Manage and support other communications as assigned including supporting&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">media opportunities and creating field materials.</span></li>

<p>THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Broad understanding of present and emerging online and new media&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">technologies, and a passion for innovation that will incorporate these&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">technologies into the daily activities of union leaders and staff.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Experienced with creating email campaigns that generate actions, integrating&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">those actions to support field activities and ensuring metric and performance&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">tracking.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Record of accomplishment in online communications, marketing and&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">engagement organizing.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Experience building a culture of online participation.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Minimum one to two years' experience in communications, outreach, online&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">organizing, social networking or email communications campaigns.</span></li>

<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Experience in Microsoft Office, web-based authoring tools, especially WordPress.</span></li>

<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Experience with Blue State Digital or other email databases is a plus.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 13px;">Publishing, Layout and video editing software is a plus.</span></li>

<p>SEIU 925 is committed to providing staff development opportunities and resources. <p>COMPENSATION:</p>
<p>Salary and benefits set by collectively bargained contract; pay scale starts at $44,000&nbsp;<span style="font-size: 13px;">(actual offer based on experience). Benefits include fully employer-paid family health&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">and dental benefits, fully employer-paid defined benefit SEIU pension, generous leave&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">package, car allowance, cell phone allowance and more.</span></p>
<p>Position is based in Seattle, WA. However, campaigns may require travel to other parts&nbsp;<span style="font-size: 13px;">of the state and potential assignments out of state.</span></p>

<h3>Job description</h3>

<p>Fuse Washington is hiring a Research & Communications Specialist to increase accountability in Washington state politics. This position will lead the collection and analysis of information about high priority candidate and issue campaigns. In addition, this position will synthesize that information into exciting, engaging writing to support online communications, earned media, and social media campaigns.</p>

<p>This position is based in Seattle, Washington and reports to the Communications Director.</p>

<h3>Key areas of responsibility</h3>
<ul>
	<li>Track, collect, organize, and synthesize information from various sources (Public Records Act requests, PDC filings, news stories, legislative records, etc).</li>
	<li>Draft e-mail and website content for distribution to Fuse members, reporters, and the public.</li>
	<li>Draft research reports for a variety of audiences.</li>
	<li>Develop social media content to promote a progressive perspective on key issues and campaigns.</li>
</ul>

<h3>Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
	<li>Excellent research and analysis skills, persistence, and good instincts to follow research leads.</li>
	<li>Demonstrated creative and analytical writing abilities, with an eye to making politics and legislative affairs accessible and compelling.</li>
	<li>A background in social science or policy research and familiarity with the legislative process are a plus.</li>
	<li>Proficiency with Twitter and Facebook; experience managing organizational accounts a plus.</li>
	<li>Innovative and data-driven.</li>
	<li>A sense of humor and a good imagination.</li>
	<li>Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, campaign-style work environment.

	<li>Passion for progressive politics in Washington.</li>
	<li>Ability to work weekends and evenings when necessary.</li>
